AP Literature & Composition Summer Reading Assignment
The focus of AP Literature is to develop excellence in the interpretation and analysis of literature. Just as importantly, students in the course should cultivate an abiding appreciation of literary works. Put in simpler terms, students in AP Lit. should relish opportunities to read novels, plays, poetry, and creative non-fiction.
EXPECTATIONS
The focus of AP Literature is to develop excellence in the interpretation and analysis of literature. Just as importantly, students in the course should cultivate an abiding appreciation of literary works. Put in simpler terms, students in AP Lit. should relish opportunities to read novels, plays, poetry, and creative non-fiction.
EXPECTATIONS
- Select TWO novels of literary merit. One MUST BE from an AP Reading List (one appears below - DO NOT SELECT THE BOLDED TITLES). The other novel may or may not be on the AP List, but should be a work of literary merit. Furthermore, one of your novels must have been published before 1970 and the other must have been published after 1970. **A word of advice: try to be diverse in your selection. The test is moving toward including more diverse authors (more females, in addition to more diversity via race, ethnicity, and even sexual orientation). While one of your books should be a "Classic", I would urge you to think outside the box for your other choice. For questions about literary merit or novel selection, feel free to email me: [email protected]
- After you have read your selected novels, compose a reduction for each. These will be due at the END of the first week of school.
Please remember that plagiarism of any kind will result in a zero on the assignment and disciplinary referral to the administration. Be advised - it is imperative you complete the summer reading. You will likely find your novels to be EXTREMELY helpful on Question 3 on test day!
